This month we're spotlighting Rock Island Cafe, and we asked them to provide us some information about what makes their business unique!
How did the business get started?
The team has been in the business of sourcing and selling collectibles, memorabilia and other treasures to visitors in Waikiki for over 40 years. In 1999, the team combined their expertise in buying and selling memorabilia with their desire to offer a retro tiki bar and diner experience to visitors from
near and far.
What products or services do you sell?
Rock Island Cafe specializes in unique retro memorabilia all for sale inside a diner and cafe, fusing shopping and dining all into one. Some items available include retro records from the 40s, 50s and 60s, life size displays of Elvis, Marilyn Monroe, and more, with a Hollywood inspired menu of bites and drinks.
What’s the one thing your business is known for?
Being uniquely a memorabilia shop as well as a retro diner. Rock Island Cafe has been compared to a pawn shop in the middle of a retro diner. Everything has its' price and nothing is off limits.
Information provided by: Michael Gelfo, Owner of Rock Island Cafe
As part of our contest for a HI Now segment on Hawaii News Now, we asked Rising Tide members to provide information highlighting their unique businesses. While only one winner could be featured in the spot, we wanted to highlight some of the other unique businesses that submitted. This started the Spotlight Member of the Month feature, a monthly highlight of small businesses from across the islands.
